Why my jeans shrinks ?
Ever wondered? Your jeans got shrinks after few wash?
The jeans you bought or jeans tailored,
Be it jeans for men or jeans for women, stretch or non stretch, it gets shrinked some what after few washes if not more then may be very less but yes the shrinkage is there.
This is because of the very basic property of cotton, be it even if it’s spandex , Lycra or 100% cotton denim , they have cotton in it, and this cotton is dried weaved in threads and then dyed with indigo, and then again weaved with other normal threads in knitted or 3×1 or 4×1 or dobby weave ,
This weaving keeps yarn threads together in pack and gives very unique decent denim look, 4×1 is smooth, 3×1 is classic, knitted is modern it’s all depend on weaving and this weaving defines the characteristics, along with that cotton used is play part
This cotton threads are binded and sticked together with weaving or knitting posses characteristics of shrinkage when washed as the space between molecule of cotton which was filled with air gets clears, small particles and bit of indigo gets washed and hence after wash it goes void, as cotton is rigid it does not goes in its original position but sticks to the more closed position and the void gets filled and become rigid after wash, this process continues for atleast 3-4 washes and your jeans feels like shrinked.
Nothing wrong in it, eventually it gets stretched and loosen up after few more (more then 7-8) washes and again you wil get comfort fit, if you are wearing skinny fit jeans you will surely observe this behaviour, as it fits, and it’s obvious, in Lycra you might not get that feeling, but 100% cotton denim your body will surely observe, but nothing to Worry in few more washes it will be back to normal, and some time after 7-8 months it becomes more loose , this is why you shall avoid washing your jeans often
